With more than 20 years of experience, Alexandre de Freitas joins our team as Country Manager of Sonico in Brazil. Alex will be responsible for approaching the network to users and the advertising market in that country, where we already have 8.8 million users. He will also open the new office of Sonico in Sao Paulo soon.

Alex is a great professional with a huge experience in the industry. He worked for important companies such as HowStuffWorks Brazil, UOL, ABN Amro Bank and Credicard SA. He graduated in Systems Technology at the Mackenzie University and did a specialization in Marketing at the Getúlio Vargas Foundation.

We are very pleased with this announcement and we want to share it with you. Alex will have a key role in reasserting our position and developing to the utmost Sonico’s market in Brazil. Our Brazilian friends will be surprised with interesting news and a social network tailored to their style and needs.

Sonico presents your new private profile, much more simple and practical, with a new design that makes it easy to keep in touch with your friends and upload new content, while enhancing both navigation speed and your own experience on Sonico.

First you will notice that we have modified the upper area to show your personal information and profile photo in a better way. Below you will find the latest activity divided in four sections: Photos, Videos, Music and Information. This way, you will be able to access the most relevant content within the blink of an eye. Remember to add your networks (school and university) so we can help you to find your ex classmates who are already registered on Sonico.

In the central area you will see all the options to share content, and also the news. If you are in your own profile, then you will be able to upload photos, videos, change your status and post links. If you are in a friend’s profile, you will be able to write a message, share photos, videos, links or send gifts, without leaving his/her profile.

On the right bar, you will see that we have gathered all the options to make it easier for you to access your profile tools. Below you will find your friends, RSS feeds, gifts, games and applications you have added. Thanks to the Order Modules option, you will be able to arrange all those options the way you like, to customize your profile even more.

I’m here to announce something that you may have already seen today in Sonico: the customization and the chat are back, totally adapted to the new design!

As you may know, our objective wasn’t only the aesthetic but also the functional harmony. That’s the reason why the integration is a progressive and not an immediate one.

Customization includes colors, wallpapers, text and images that will be activated or deactivated by choice.  First, it will be added on profiles, later on groups, events and bands.

The chat has come back in a cleaner and simpler version, so that you can contact your friends instantly.

Many of you woke up this morning, logged in to Sonico and saw a lot of changes… among them, the colors and customization of your profiles had disappeared! Don’t worry, they’ll be back… and in a better shape!

Sonico is only 17 months old and we’ll reach the 30 million users mark by the end of this week. Your support has encouraged us to keep adding features and improvements at an amazing pace (every day!). Both our growth as well as our commitment to offer you an excellent service have pushed us to keep moving on and aim even higher. We’ve been paying attention to many of the suggestions we’ve been receiving in the last months, so much that we even included lots of them in the new design launched yesturday.

Some of the available new features are:

- We improved the site’s navigation and usability so you can surf it easily
- Now, the profiles will be more dynamic, showing more user activity.
- You can leave a comment on your friends’ statuses.
- You can comment on and watch videos right from the homepage.
- The size of the photos has been expanded (all the new photos will be a lot bigger!)
- The birthday alerts managing was improved, and all your different alerts have been integrated into the same calendar.

Among other details…

Along with these very changes, the redesign affected colors and backgrounds preferences of your profiles, groups, events and bands. We decided to launch this new version of Sonico without having finished the customizing stage, since we think it is a very important upgrade four our users.

We really appreciate your patience while we complete the next stage of Sonico’s development, that will enable again the profiles’ colors and background customization . Our entire team is working to launch it as soon as possible. Every change is meant to prepare us for a new year full of incredible upgrades and new services!

You may have noticed that since a few months ago you can not only enjoy Sonico in two languages (Spanish and Portuguese), but also in four dialects: on one hand in Latin American or Spain’s Spanish and, on the other hand, in Portugal’s or Brazil’s Portuguese.

However, we came here to announce that a new option is joining the site: since this week Sonico is also available in English.

Given the huge growth experienced by Sonico ’s community all over the world, our linguistic offer wasn’t enough. For that reason we decided to embrace Shakespeare’s language, so more people could enjoy Sonico no matter their origin. Step by step and with passion and effort (like always) we’ll keep pulling down idiomatic walls.

What are they about? Let me explain them.

• Since the launch of the new section, now your independent band (or your friends’, cousins’, etc.) has the online space it deserves. There you will be able to upload photos and events, get in touch with your fans… and even listen to your band’s music on the fly, thanks to the integrated player!

• Have you ever been in a party having a great time when you want to take an unforgettable picture and share it with your friends… but you can’t do that because you are far away from a computer? Now you just need to send a multimedia message (MMS) or an e-mail to mobile@sonico.com with the personalized code you’ll find in our site… and that’s it! The album will be created automatically, and 5 minutes later your friends will be able to see every picture you took.

However, it isn’t the only service we bring to you. Now you’ll also be able to recharge your cellphone credit without leaving your favourite chair, using just your mouse and your credit/debit card. You must choose your country, your carrier and the amount you want to recharge. A few minutes later, you’ll be talking again with your friends and relatives. The current version of this service is available in USA, Argentina, Mexico and Peru, but more and more countries will be added to enjoy this feature.
